March 23 Heavenly BlissHave you ever ate something and just felt like you were in heaven?
I felt that way yesterday. We ate lunch at The Melting Pot. They are a wonderful (if expensive) fondue resturant. We had never been there and since I am home for Easter, Mom decided we would splurge and eat lunch there. Since we have both been on a diet since the new year and haven't eaten much in the way of sweets, it was quite the indulgence.
We ate: Spinach Artichoke Cheese Fondue, Tropical Salad, The Fondue Fusion (which included two pieces each of lobster tail, filet mignon medalion, balsamic-marinated sirloin, garlic-herb chicken, citris pork tenderloin, white shrimp, summer squash ravioli, jerk beef, and some roasted vegtables), and Chocolate Peanut Butter Fondue with Oreo cookie pieces.
Let me just say that while I enjoyed every single bit of food, the absolute best part was the rice crispie treat dipped in the chocolate peanut butter fondue and then dipped into the oreo cookie bits. Absolutely heavenly.
I wish that I could say that feeling lasted...but it didn't. I got up from the table (after absolutely enjoying every morsel of food) and all of a sudden felt very sick. I knew that after three months of eating healthy, not having sweets more than once a week, and eating limited calories, I should never have eaten that much food. The worst part was that when Mom realized that I honestly wasn't feeling well, she started laughing. She had been trying to joke with me about being sick after eating all that food, but in reality...it was true. This, however, made it all the funnier.
While I was walking to the car insisting to my mother that I really was all right, I made a realization about sin. You see: the food tasted so good and I so enjoyed my meal. Nothing could have stopped me while I was eating it. It was wonderful, but immediately afterward, I reaped the reward...and no longer felt good. God told me this is how it is with our sin. It feels good while we are engaged in the sin, but afterward, we will reap the reward: and it only leads to distruction.
Thank you Lord for your grace and forgiveness. Thank you that today is a new day. Thank you for taking the punishment for our sin. Thank you for the resurrection. Amen.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
-2 Corinthians 5:21 March 15 Why I Order Decaf!! I went to a coffee shop this evening with my Bible Study friends. I ordered a large (20 oz) decaf skinny latte with vanilla flavoring. Now, I should have realized something was wrong when they forgot the vanilla flavoring, but the coffee tasted good. I decided I didn't care enough about the flavor shot to tell them it was wrong. The truth was it was actually pretty good without the vanilla. So, I enjoyed by latte, talked with my friends, and enjoyed the evening. I do remember thinking..."I hope this is decaf, oh well, he repeated the order to me and said decaf...he said vanilla too, but..." I got home and went about cleaning up my living room and kitchen...putting away mail and just generally cleaning up. I planned out my day tomorrow: food and errands/chores to make sure that I could get everything done in the correct time frame. I should have realized something was wrong when I looked at the clock and it was after 11:00 and I didn't feel tired, but I was busy working. I went to bed at 12:15 and when I was still wide awake, eyes open 20 minutes later...well...you get the picture. I decided to get up because I decided that if I wasn't going to sleep then I had things to do. So here I am at 1:30 in the morning, creating an overdue blog entry after having washed the dishes and boiled eggs for tomorrow's breakfast (oh, how I love a boiled egg Well, off to try and get some shut eye. Good night. |
